I had the same question when trying to go through some introductory applet exercises that required me to write an HTML file to display the applet I created using Eclipse. There is probably a more correct solution, but I was able to get the result that I was looking for: displaying my java applet created in Eclipse using a web browser.
I also applied some post-processing to the output with the Java version of HTML Tidy, but that was more for version-control consistency reasons. Eclipse Juno keeps opening my HTML files in a embedded web-browser, rather than in an embedded syntax-highlighting editor. Specifically see the screenshot of my install applications. Left click on your favorite HTML editor and left click on the Default button to make it the default editor. If the extension you want is missing, left click on the Add button to the right of the upper view to add the extension.
Select the extension up top e. I had a similar problem. Once I installed the html editor thanks to CgodLEY , still my html files wouldnt show up with that editor. Fortunately that solve everything Note: if you previously opened a specific. HTML file with some other editor, you need to go back to the project view, right click on the. HTML file, select 'open with I just created a dummy project, and now the html files are correctly opened with the editor selected in my preferences. Nothing worked and I had begun getting an unrelated error on startup with a troubleshooting step requiring reinstall.
In the past, when I used Eclipse to develop Android highly structured Java apps, I found it to be slow and clunky. To be expected since it is written in Java. This will give me a chance to see if it has improved. At the time of writing this, the current Eclipse version is Oxygen. The comments on this page refer to that version. The installation failed - nice red error bar - something about not being able to rename the cache file.
I restarted the install with - run as administrator - that worked! Windows 10 is a real pain - If an install program creates a file, it should be able to rename it without having to run as administrator.
Once the installation is complete, be sure to go to the downloads directory and delete the On my system, I deleted this after the install completed, but before the installer closed.
Based on the available options, it is possible that the installer might have automatically deleted this file - not sure. Many forums, blogs, and questions refer to it - but none say that it is no longer available. It is just that the option is never where that help says it should be.
The original forum post was on As of , over 2, people had viewed my request for help - and there were still no replies.
Actually, very few of the requests for help have replies - yet another indication that Eclipse should not be used. At any rate, I posted a link to this page so everyone can know the answer. Finally, the Web Page Editor is available - Unfortunately, it is not usable until the following windows are manually opened these should be automatic - by default.
The only obvious remaining problem is that only html 4 objects are displayed - and all of my applications use html 5 objects mainly the canvas for graphs and number input field. You know, I am developing in javascript and html. I don't want java and I really don't like java so therefore it makes perfect sense but not to me that I would have to install the java tools to work with javascript.
The key to figuring this out was on one of the pages I found when searching the web for Web Page Editor. I have previously developed Android apps with Eclipse. In fact, that is the main reason I thought it would be worth trying to get the Web Page Editor working.
After 3 days this is a significant disappointment and I am going back to using notepad and web searches to build highly interactive web pages. To be fair, I did not spend much time evaluating the javascript editor and it appears to be pretty good. It provides syntax highlighting and templates However, considering all the extra baggage that comes with Eclipse special directory names, lots of extra [unused] directories and files , it is my opinion that Eclipse is simply not worth the effort.
Java is the object-oriented programming language that is used for creating robust web applications. It is one of the most popular programming languages that allows web developers to utilize top Java IDEs and advanced frameworks for implementing several desktop, enterprise, and mobile applications.
Web artifacts must be first class citizens with respect to the capabilities that eclipse users expect. Servers must be first class execution environments, including both Open and Commercial implementations, therefore encourage support of eclipse by server vendors.
Support of Web standards in the scope of the Web Standard Tools subproject includes languages and specifications published by open-standard bodies e. This subproject will provide support for integrating Web servers into Eclipse as first-class execution environments for Web applications. This support will include the ability to configure Web servers and assocaite them with Web projects.
Examplar tools for supporting popular Open Source Web servers, such as Apache, are in scope. The subproject will provide tools that directly support the base standards and that are also extensible.
