Great tutorial. I found the wikis on this subject confusing and full of info most people would never use. This worked perfect. No doubt, an excellent instruction for flashing the router. Thanks to the author, but it seems, that no one who has asked a question in this forum has got any answer or reply. Should we not share experience here? Excellent tutorial — clear, concise steps. Thank you for the instructions. Do you have dd-wrt on the box now or are you trying to go from stock linksys firmware to dd-wrt? If you are now running stock fw, it is a process to install dd-wrt. Check the wiki for install procedures for your router. You can't just load it up through the webinterface. Slow down, and do some homework. Start with reading the wiki install guide for that router, then go to the announcements and read other basic install processes.

An I agree they keep reducing the the ram an storage on these devices.. But even with the limited hardware, 3rd party firmware squeezes way more performance out of it! I really have not gotten to play with all the features yet, I just flashed mine about a week ago. It really depends on what you are using your network connection for. If it's simply to check mail, and browse websites, there probably won't be much to configure. Budman could probably tell you about the more advanced features.
I just follow the basic rule, if I don't know what it does research it, or leave it alone. If you're having random reboots, the only thing you can do is to disable the SPI firewall.

I am following the steps exactly as they are shown I am a total noob at this so if anyone has advice please be patient with me, cuz I will probably ask lots of questions. Can not read local file sounds like a issue with your tftp command -- are you put the correct path to the file?
