I prefer to have all my data files in my data folders, part of my backup plan, and if need be in shared locations.
When you change the workgroup templates directory, it creates a new entry called SharedTemplates in the windows registry here:. The SharedTemplates string value is the workgroup templates directory you specify. In MS Project, My Templates then pulls templates from the SharedTemplates directory workgroup templates directory as well as the default directory it points at. In the Modify Location dialog box, change the setting in the Folder name list or the Look in list to the folder in which you want to save your new templates.
